Before the Ruins

Before the Ruins explores the rise, structure, ambition, belief systems, and daily realities of ancient civilizations long before they became archaeological sites. From Mesopotamia to Mesoamerica, from forgotten maritime empires to mountain kingdoms carved into stone, this collection focuses on living societies—how they governed, built, traded, worshiped, fought, and imagined their futures. Rather than treating ancient cultures as static relics, these podcasts reconstruct them as dynamic systems. We examine environmental pressures, technological innovations, political tensions, and social hierarchies that shaped their trajectories. What made them powerful? What made them fragile? What warning signs were visible long before collapse? Because ruins tell us that something ended. Understanding what came before explains why. If modern society rests on ancient foundations, this is where we uncover them—before time reduced them to stone.
